ENTRANT* means innovation every step of the way.
In 1979 Toray was ready to make its first attempt at producing a waterproof, moisture permeable fabric. This was the first step of Toray's long climb toward achieving a fabric that could ensure maximum wearer comfort at any time under any condition. ENTRANT* offered full protection against the elements in harsh environments. An ENTRANT* garment kept rain, snow and wind out while at the same time allowing the wearer's perspiration vapor to exit. It would allow use in any environment and was well suited for the most strenuous activity imaginable. The ENTRANT* brief was to deliver real comfort for any outdoor situation. What made it possible to achieve such a high degree of performance was a microporous coating featuring a honeycomb structure to let all vapor and moisture (averaging 0.0004μm) freely dissipate and quickly evaporate. This coating extends deep into the fabric and the honeycomb's pores average just 2 or 3μm, too small for rain and water droplets (100μm to 3,000μm) to enter, yet allowing vapor to pass through effectively. The ENTRANT* fabric exterior was also coated with a durable water-repellent finish that forced water to bead and roll off. Matching its star performance was the durability engineered into the fabric to retain all performance characteristics over an extended period over abuse and numerous washing cycles.
Refining the innovations.
ENTRANT* was an extraordinary fabric with superb performance qualities that kept it in a select group of the leading moisture permeable, waterproof fabrics. Toray aimed higher to achieve even better performance and more comfort through its technological strengths which kept advancing. ENTRANT* has undergone constant improvements over time and has shown the way to an increasing number of ENTRANT* variations developed for specialized applications. The long history of accumulated experience with ENTRANT* has allowed Toray to refine and apply new processing technologies to achieve new standards for waterproofness, water repellency and breathability.
The improvements have led to the development of new and exciting ENTRANT* variants. For instance, ENTRANT*V, a new-generation microporous coated fabric with moisture permeability optimized for both high and low intensity activities. Or ENTRANT*DERMIZAX*EV, a heavy-duty nonporous laminated fabric with exceptionally high resistance to water pressure. The development processes resulted in knowledge that was invaluable for developing other ENTRANT* breakthroughs--the revolutionary hybrid structure ENTRANT*HB, microporous lamination DERMIZAX*MP and ENTRANT*DT, the new activewear trendsetter.
